I dont think West View was particularly unhappy. I think that sequence was to contrast with the happy side we see in the sitcom universe. Real world West View isnt unhappy, it's normal.

This has been, in general, my experience with every small town. They shoot it in a really bland way too, color is really desaturated.

Im also kind of reminded that often Hollywood picks different locations for shows to take place in, but often just shoots in California. Which means places that actually have weather just end up being sunny all the time.

If they didn't shoot the real-world Jersey segments in Jersey, they picked a damn good replica. You can't position where exactly Westview is bc the highway is fake, but it's plainly somewhere near where I used to live and it's exactly like that

I meant the segments inside the sitcom universe she made feel like they were shot in california. Especially the color episodes.

WandaVision's exterior scenes were mostly shot on sets in California, for easy building up/taking down The interior scenes that form the bulk of the show were shot in Atlanta

Which makes sense and it does add to the surreality of the show. Inside the the hex Westview is California. Outside is kinda shity New Jersey small town.

Yup, and it reflects the sitcoms that did the same thing Malcolm in the Middle was supposed to vaguely take place in Middle America even though it's obviously filmed in LA where it's always sunny (filming outdoors someplace where weather unpredictably happens is a PITA)

This is actually a little bit of a pet peeve of mine as someone who lives in the northeast. Even in shows shot in Canada like Schitt's Creek and Kim's Convience, they're in perpetual height of summer, when dealing with weather is a huge part of living this far north.

This is the same reason everyone's house/apartment is like 3x the size of the space someone who's actually poor should be able to afford It's just such a logistical pain in the ass to actually shoot outdoors in the snow or the rain, or to fit your camera crew in a tiny apartment
