When we were assigned that book in high school I barreled through it in one sitting and I'll still defend it to the hatershttps://twitter.com/IBJIYONGI/status/1366068173796216833 …

I am always amazed that people think it is about parties. It is about entitled rich white people behaving badly and escaping consequences. Poor Gatsby never stood a chance against entitled manor born. I love it, but I love The Razor's Edge more because there are CONSEQUENCES.

The hate of it epitomizes a lot of the failings in how reading and literature are taught in school. That so much of it is rote and “see these insights we tell you to see” and a lot of that lacks context at those ages

You'll never be able to convince me that a novel with such obvious symbolic imagery, where by the way a car hits someone so hard it mentions her boob pops off, is the great American novel.

All true. It's also just a short book, which helps with all of that.
