Iron Man 3 and Raimi’s Spider-Man 2 did kind of the same thing earlier on.

It really speaks to the moment. We are collectively realizing that even our own heroes are in need of saving. That even those among us who seem like they are the strongest are actually hurting the most inside.

Maybe Zack Snyder was onto something when he decided to take Superman, a symbol of hope and optimism, and show him feeling tormented and full of grief in Man of Steel. In a lot of ways, he was ahead of the curve.
-
Except that version of Superman never really was optimistic, so what exactly was he burnt out from? He was just a grump with terrible Randroid parents.

Could additionally be a sign of writer burnout. Like, ENOUGH already with the superheroes, it's OLD So they write them getting old
