I think most criticisms of the MCU are correct and valid, but the fact that "Agatha All Along" is already on everybody's lists of "Most Memorable Moments" is a pretty good sign that the MCU isn't just "filling the appetite for generic action-movie content anyone else could"

It still just kind of floors me that other studios looked at the MCU and went “hell yeah we’re gonna do this the QUICK and EASY way” The whole reason the MCU works as well as it does is because they didn’t START there, they actually built it over time

And what the MCU did over time was "Repackage well-known brand names" not as slick action heroes but as believable complex people with understandable conflicts.

I think the Kaiju thing (Godzilla/Kong) mostly only worked because they only really had two properties to work with...and were willing to weather a movie that got a meh reaction instead of dumping everything and starting over.
