One of my favorite factoids (that I havent bothered verify) was that “Samantha” was an uncommon, exotic name until Bewitched came out and it got so trendy we just see it as normal now, which I heard in response to people melting down over names like “Khaleesi” gaining popularity.

"Madison" wasn't a name for girls at all until Splash, the WHOLE JOKE in Splash is that it's a wildly incongruous name for a woman that she took off a street sign Now thanks to that movie's popularity the joke is completely lost

see also "Ford Prefect," which seems like a nice inconspicuous name if one has skimped a bit on preparatory research and mistaken cars for the planet's dominant life form.

I mentioned before that if you were rewriting Hitchhiker's Guide from scratch today then Ford's name would obviously be P.T. Cruiser

Well the joke in the original was that the Ford Prefect was an uncommon and kind of shitty car

I read it as being a reasonably common, if shitty car in the UK at the time.

It was actually a slightly upmarket car, but one that hadn't been made for about sixteen years. It was at the high end of normal family cars for its time, but its time was a while earlier.
