Anyway, the "genderists" are the ones saying that gender is complex and can be described as different things at different times under different circumstances (non-binary identity) and can be experienced by the subject as changing over time (fluidity)

And that the evil of conversion therapy is that it's trying to change something externally and against your will, not that it's changing something that's in principle impossible to change

It's interesting that you say this - do you think conversion therapy (if there was a "successful" version out there) would be okay if it was authentically desired? Serious question, I honestly can't guess what you'd say there.

I dunno, I think it's possible for someone who didn't use to like eating meat to start eating meat and enjoy it, or even to intentionally try to make themselves eat it to "broaden their horizons" and have it work

I think, however, that someone who sees their own dislike of meat as some kind of disorder or deficiency and tries to embark on an actual program to forcibly change this about themselves has some serious other issues going on and is in an unwell place

At a certain level either you do like something or you don't like it and complicated mental constructs along the lines of Romans 7:15 ("I like this but I DON'T WANT TO LIKE IT") collapse

This really isn't that complicated or big a deal tbh Social conservatives - including TERFs - are right now trying to attack LGBT people with the "recruitment narrative" by just doing a judo flip on conversion therapy

Absurdly, arguing that now that they're fully gay-accepting enlightened liberals who've left the past behind, everyone KNOWS if they're gay FOR SURE from the age of five and anyone trying to "violate" your orientation after that point is EQUALLY PROBLEMATIC

Even though we fucking know just from looking around and listening to people's experiences that the "experimenting in college" narrative is a cliché for a reason, that a lot of teenagers DON'T know for sure what their orientation is

I mean if people actually bought this bullshit - which the LGB Alliance is actively pushing, saying queer clubs on high school campuses that hand out "Are you questioning?" pamphlets are "grooming gangs" - then yeah it'd be fatal to the LGBT community, it's just Section 28

But the whole point is that telling a straight person "Are you sure you're 100% straight? There's no shame in exploring to see if you're not" is not at all the same thing as saying "Your heterosexuality is a disease and you need to let me work on you until it's cured"
