Right, like I think the strawman here is that "genderists" believe gender is some completely immutable metaphysical truth stamped on your soul from birth by God And of course I don't believe gender is that, I don't believe things like that exist Who does

The irony is that TERFs do believe this about "biological sex" (it's an obvious, immutable, clear distinction "stamped on every cell of the body" etc) and are projecting - "Well if THAT isn't the immutable truth then what is?"

The thing being, TERFs also do believe in this kind of immutable truth about "between the ears" stuff - like sexual orientation - and find any suggestion of fluidity in that regard deeply threatening and violating etc

Biological determinism serves the same ideological function as theological determinism using precisely the same arguments, they've simply switched out the object of discourse and hoped nobody noticed.

"You are like this because god made you this way and there's no point in trying to be something else" becomes "You are like this because genes made you this way and there's no point in trying to be something else" and no one skips a beat.

But... this is literally the position of a large section of transgender activists re: gender identity??? An explicitly "born this way" gender model is extremely common, arguably the default model in public discourse today.

You're behind the times, buddy, "born in the wrong body" is OUT and enbies and fluidity are IN

This is what's kind of funny about this, that this is actually a somewhat fraught cultural fight "within the community" and the TERFs are just blissfully unaware of it because they're ignorant hacks

Everything they know about trans people - even stuff they could use as ammo if they were inclined - is awkwardly and painfully out of date, at least ten years behind the times

Like I witnessed the TERFs doing their little mocking dance on their own subreddit "Contra got canceled, Contra got canceled" without seeming to have any awareness of what it was ContraPoints got in a fight over - which was specifically this issue

Natalie saying "I'm the last of the old school trans women" saying that she felt like the "born in the wrong body" narrative was useful for her and alienated by the Gen Z fluidity discourse Then jumped on by people her age and older saying "Don't speak for me on this issue"

It was "transsexuals", as I recall, which just has so much more baggage in this regard.
