the bully pulpit is the magic green lantern ring to Bragman and his confused cohort. nothing works like that. Manchin doesn't care if Biden denounces him. in fact, he probably mostly thinks it helps him with his voters.https://twitter.com/WalkerBragman/status/1364070323226873858 …

I don't know. I think there's plenty of ways to make Manchin's life hell if you're so inclined. Hell, the fact that he's basically Democrat Satan ought to be a talking point for the whole party.

there isn't though. he likes to be seen as independent, so Dem leadership yelling at him is pretty much what he wants. and if eh really gets pissed he can switch parties, and then Ds have even less ability to pass their agenda.

it's frustrating, but there really isn't much they can do. if we'd won NC and ME, things would be a lot different. but we didn't and they aren't.

I think, given the urgency of the situation, there's plenty of options available, they're just not the kind Biden personally finds palatable.

like what? you can't force him to vote at gunpoint, I don't think. not sure what other options there are.

He's a Senator in the first place because West Virginia is extremely conservative The reason he's there is he has a certain reputation for baseline competence and professional experience that the WV GOP roster lacks If you forced him out you'd just get a Republican

So if we forced him out nothing would change?

ah, right, the thing he will never get on board with, because then nobody would give a fuck about him, which brings us back to square one

*shrug* He's only this important because the map is tilted against Democrats and because Republicans are still way more popular than they should be FDR had 58 Senators when he was elected, Biden has 50, and that really is a massive political difference

I don't think penny is saying "what can dems do in theory with an imaginary better map or split?" I thunk she's saying "what MUST we do now to avoid an apocalyptic red wave that murders us all in the short or long term?"
