When conservative asshole Americans complain about how lazy everyone is these days and no one has proper respect for work it's like the story of the guy who invented potato chips by constantly yelling his fries were too thick and softhttps://twitter.com/kareem_carr/status/1364010560996704259?s=20 …

As it is you get people in this country saying that being very aware that work sucks and demanding compensation for every bit of it you have to do -- charging for every minute you're on the clock -- is a *character flaw* That it makes you "greedy" or "stingy" FFS

I’m already hearing the idea that if you get vaccinated you should be happy to be asked to do riskier work you had declined before. As if getting vaccinated (b/c you’re treated horribly by the healthcare system & would likely die if infected) is a pass to get more Covid exposure.
-
This is why I'm afraid to tell my boss I'm vaccinated.

This. I've always felt out of place in this country (even though I was born here and have never lived elsewhere) because I don't judge a person's character by how many hours they work and because I think we should work less and relax more and because I oppose working overtime.

Also I don't think that maintaining civilization is an all-hands-on-deck affair. We as a society do not NEED everyone to work in order to keep things ticking along. But the system says that the only way to get food is to trade your labor or have rich parents, so here we are.

It's one thing if you've got some kind of calling to work, like teachers or social workers. But even then, all we do is treat that as an opportunity to screw those workers over by paying them less.
-
Please don’t take this as an attack, but the very concept of any kind of work as a “calling” gives it a quasi-religious vibe that makes me very uncomfortable. I mean, if you hate kids, you shouldn’t teach, but… not everyone who teaches should need to be devoted to it?
