Uh, no, such views exist in most parts of society. This is not the end of a horseshoe, but anti-abortion extremism. Though it’s interesting that someone thought it important to note that this was no right-winger.

… and I understand why someone felt the need to state that this was no right-winger. Because it’s false:https://twitter.com/SikotiHamiltonR/status/1325230448331509760 …

he wrote a (crappy) book a couple of years ago on Deleuze, religion and leftism and wrote extensively on his views on integralism on his twitter account. I’m not going to link it because I’m not going to boost his stuff. You’re seeing him fall off the horseshoe

Or the reception on the left wasn’t good, so he switched to people who listen?

There is no horseshoe. There are some people attracted to violence who don’t differenciate, but moving further left does not get you closer to the right.

I get very tired about No True Scotsman debates about "the horseshoe" Can we at least agree that there isn't a straight line here? That to go from "far left" to "far right" requires no intermediate period of being a normie centrist liberal in between?

I think if there's one thing that's obvious about this shit it's that personality type and aesthetic style are far more core to who people are than the substance of their ideology The bit in Heart of Darkness about Kurtz where "whatever he was, he was an extremist"

In practical terms all this means is that at the very least you should stop listening when people say because being a leftist is the "opposite" of being a fascist that means if you're "far left" it takes a very long time or requires a great deal of effort to become "far right"

There is no magic immunization from becoming a fascist and self-conscious identification as a FAR leftist least of all

I think it's partly that some folks have a personality type that tends towards being uncritically anti-establisment. If that's your jam, the left and the right are equally appealing because they both allow you to fight the "broken" society to which you dont want to conform.
