I feel like I'm inviting someone to roll up on me saying I just don't understand "British irony", as though there's no connection between this longstanding tradition in UK comedy and, as they say over there, the current "state of it all"

I always hated the way that the twins were outright bullies and this was excused because their targets are innately unacceptable (1st year Slytherins etc), and we were supposed to like them. It made me mistrust her.
-
And turns out that was a solid bully-dar ping.

But can we talk about Cho Chang and how fucked up her name is and how her character was treated??? Rowling cries about fucking "real womanhood" by throws an Asian woman under the dangerous stereotypes that lead to hypersexualization and violence bus

Written by literally any other author, Luna and Neville would be the main characters. Instead? The asshole who is really good at football, his narc friend and the bully
-
Yes! I don't think it's massively relevant to her opinions today, but it's a book about a magical outsider written by someone who has no empathy for outsiders.

I thought of all the stereotypes in the fairy tale tradition so they didn’t hit me as hard — but besides all that, Hard Yikes to whomever was arguing the morality in them is valuable. The moral is, be or make friends with The Chosen One.

I mean, yeah, it's set in a very olde worlde private boarding school atmosphere, that's about as out of touch with normal folk as Brits can get. Some of the comments are really reading a lot into minute details tho, you could do that harshly for Roald Dahl too methinks.pic.twitter.com/ubL0cTAlPK

Well I suppose its a good thing that roald dahl was never racist or anything then. Oh.
