Mary Kate and Ashley do look pretty similar to each other, but as they got older it started getting more and more obvious they were not, in fact, identical twins This *may* have played a part in people losing their fascination with them

I appreciate that, as what may be a nod to this, Wanda's twins on WandaVision aren't identical at all, and by the time they hit the age of 10 don't even look similar (I mean, that's also so they could save themselves grief when auditioning child actors but still)

It's a whole thing that in real life dizygotic twins are WAY more common than monozygotic twins But because it's not actually that interesting compared to the dramatic situations having an identical twin can cause, you almost never see fraternal twins in fiction

It's just having a sibling who has your same birthday, big whoop (I mean sometimes they get mileage out of wanting to do "twin" tropes with the siblings having different assigned sex at birth, like Wanda and Pietro)

"Fraternal" is a funny word. Shouldn't it be "sorternal" or something in this case?
-
Well if you're gonna be all scientifically accurate the term is "dizygotic"

I have a friend who is a sorroral twin (like the Olsens) and she and her sister look a lot alike, and when they were like infants her Mom would get invitations from showbiz people to audition Fortunately her mom was like "uh, no fw"

I remember when Martha Marcy May Marlene came out, and the reviews were justifiably lauding her performance, and some of the critics were saying that the Olsen sister you’ve never heard of is the one with actual talent. And she is _much_ more than a Marvel star.
-
Well I mean I think after our recent national reckoning with the torture the media and the courts put Britney Spears through we should probably re-evaluate how popular it used to be to dunk on the Olsen twins

I knew a pair of fraternal twins growing up who were basically indistinguishable. I'll confess that I'm not the best with faces but it took me years to get them straight consistantly.

Tbf it is possible for fraternal twins to be "half-identical" - the egg splits into two identical eggs that get fertilized by two different sperm But this is pretty rare
