I don't see how small-time Nazi blogs and high-budget Nazi blogs are "completely different things."

It’s more that a blog and an institutional pillar of American discourse that employs thousands of people around the world are different things.

They really aren't. This reminds me of when British people say "the BBC is biased nationally, but good for international affairs." The lack of context, the bullshitting, the beige blather; all translate perfectly to how "respectable" media smears Bolivia, Venezuela, China, etc.

You’re mistaking my argument as having any value judgment whatsoever.

I think factual statements such as "the NYT is considered respectable" can acquire value judgment from context (in this case being positively contrasted with Siskind's tripe). Saying "I'm just stating facts!" is a typical NRx technique, surely you know this?

I think you are missing a layer of sarcasm here.

I mean there is actually some substance. I really do think pretending that the unreliability of the NYT and SSC are basically equivalent and work in basically the same way is an overreach that obscures more than it reveals.

The NYT is garbage in a great number of ways that are very important but they are legitimately different ways from the way Scott Siskind is bad and require very different tools for navigating.

Lol okay the NYT and Scott's blog are somewhat different in kind but they're also massively different in degree Nothing that is bad about the NYT (kneejerk centrism, bootlicking power worship, self-regarding contrarianism) isn't 100x worse about Slatestarcodex

Even if you hate the NYT, and I do, they are better than Slatestarcodex, and that is a low bar The bad things about Slatestarcodex are what the NYT's worst elements would be if you took the brakes off them entirely

I.e. if you completely deleted all the PoC and most of the women from the NYT's staff and from their leadership's entire social circle, so the NYT's social milieu became a fully accurate mirror of the Slatestarcodex community
