Saying that as soon as he walked out of the airport he was surrounded by filthy poors demanding to sell him stuff, do simple tasks for him, show him around, angrily claiming he owed them a dollar just for making eye contact with them And he felt violated and scared

"Wow, these people really really want to get their hands on American currency I'm worried some of them might actually get desperate enough to jump me for it This must be how a hot girl feels when she rolls up to the club and the creeps all swarm on her hoping to touch a boob"

It's the kind of thing that sounds very empathetic and insightful if you're part of his target audience of privileged dorks who are proud of what dumb "decoupling" shitheads they are

It only makes sense if you focus COMPLETELY on how his own EXPERIENCE of being a wealthy tourist FEELS to him like being a hot girl LOOKS to him And didn't expend a single watt of brainpower on how the poor beggars or the hot girl's life actually feels most of the time

That no, not knowing how you're going to pay rent or buy food and water or keep your children safe is NOT, AT ALL, like a lonely techbro's desire to have a girlfriend and get laid except in the barest, most primitive sense that both things are "strong human desires"

And that no, being sexually attractive IS NOT the same as having monetary wealth, or like having any kind of asset separate from your body and your person that you actually can give to somebody else

in his thousands and thousands of words about nerds and dating, did he ever stop to look at how "nerds" treat women they consider low-status? we're supposed to think it's all just people casting about for any kind of human connection at all when… that's transparently not it.

He plays with elisions like this all the time Scott has, by HIS OWN accounts, had a pretty cushy life He has a family -- parents and siblings he repeatedly says he's on good terms with -- and he's said his colleagues and mentors in school and at work have always been supportive

Maybe that's less accurate than his florid self-pitying rants in blog posts like "Untitled" etc. but I tend to think that it's not, and that he actually has had a decent social support structure all this time, and that he blatantly conflates being "all alone" with being an incel

And this fucking garbage about "touch starvation" and "Do you know what it's like to have no one made eye contact or smiled at you or care you exist for years" DOES NOT APPLY TO HIM and DOES NOT APPLY to the vast majority of incels

There are people in the world it does apply to -- and it applies to them generally because of, most of all, a *lack of money*, and along with it the extreme forms of "classic oppressions" he wants to bracket off and decouple because then it gets all SJW in here

A magnificent rant, Arthur. In coming to this whole discussion I've had to recalibrate my understanding of the words "nerd" and "geek". Either I've misunderstood them for decades, or their meaning has changed. Or maybe the "rationalist" community uses a different dictionary.

Further to this thought: Arthur is a Jeopardy champion. I spent 20+ years in & around Silicon Valley as a freeking *technical writer*. He & I met as co-panelists at a *science fiction convention*. Aren't he & I nerds? Or at the very least, geeks? Yet we're not misogynists or 1/2
