i have come to believe that concision is something you owe your interlocutors it stems from the recognition that we are all thinking but limited beings, with only so much time and attention and energy
and one can abuse this fact--win arguments by running out the clock, just having more posting stamina than anyone else this is not conducive to the rational exchange of ideas
The whole thing about actual debate teams in actual debate tournaments is THERE'S A CLOCK
hence the part where you train yourself to enunciate clearly while still talking really fast
The whole thing about actual debates is they END Your time is up and you have to stop talking Then the judges decide who won, and that's it Someone wins the debate and the other side loses Scott's hobby is *not* actually what debate is like and is infinitely more annoying
And that's the whole thing, under the Scott approach nothing is ever fucking finished, you can never say "the debate has been won" (in fact saying that is one of those "appeals to irrationality" they hate so much - who says the debate has been won, who has the right)
We've got to dig up the moldering corpse of 1930s eugenics, rusty calipers in hand, for yet another go-round
