I've never been even remotely coy about being efilist, misotheistic, disbelieving in extraterrestrial life or against space exploration and yet whenever any of those things come up people are like "well, I never!" and promptly unfollow

Like you don't believe there are extraterrestrials at all or that it would be a bad idea to make ourselves known to them?

I think the idea that life simply doesn't exist anywhere but Earth is highly unlikely, but I think that sapient life is highly unlikely to exist in a way that could actually matter to us

I.e. I think the obvious correct solution to the Drake Equation, looking at the history of our own planet, is that sapient life like we are is an exceptionally rare random event that is also brief and burns itself out really fast

And even if that weren't the case, a human style civilization that lasted a million years still couldn't solve the problem of interstellar travel and communication The distances are just too big, it's a hard limit on what tech can accomplish

The optimistic humanism of old school science fiction is that there *are no* hard limits on what tech can accomplish so any human style beings that exist have a "destiny to spread to the stars" Every single bit of evidence and common sense is against this idea

Not to go to far down the speculative tech rabbit hole. But, how can we be certain no one ever cracks a way of traveling vast distances without physically covering those distances? It's really hard to predict what future tech will accomplish. Not that I see this happening soon.
