They don't technically ban caffeine! Just "hot drinks". So Coca-Cola is OK (for most LDS ppl at least, not all). And, confusingly, so is stuff like Postum and herbal tea. It has to be both caffeinated and brewed to fall under the ban.
-
Yes, this bizarre qualification they have that by "hot drinks", God via Smith specifically meant Tea and Coffee, and only Tea and Coffee.

I thought the LDS church was okay with ephedra - is that not right? If that is right, I presume that in the new regulatory environment that would fill the same role.
-
They certainly used to be fine with ephedra. Called it Mormon Tea. It's a native plant in Utah.

I understand the question is about caffeine, not Mormons, but a *vast* quantity of Diet Coke is consumed along the Wasatch Front as people with jobs and children try to survive mornings without coffee or tea. Soda is very, very important.

there is nothing more disappointing than gold can diet coke

Everyone’s different but I’ve always thought caffeine was a kinda shitty stimulant compared to Adderall. After the prescription crunch, I think things would work out.
