The whole thing with these villain POV flips is like One thing you can do is to try to actually argue why what the villain did in the original story was justified Another thing is to retcon it so the original story was all lies and they didn't actually do it

These two approaches aren't really consistent with each other - in fact one is the opposite of the other But they tend to get lumped together as the same thing And many stories do a combination of both to make a wider thematic point

You will note that this kind of thing, which Freud called "kettle logic", comes up in real life Trump's defenders simultaneously saying that everything he did was perfectly justifiable and legal, AND that he didn't actually do it and it's a hoax

AND that, in fact, it was his enemies who did it and framed him for it ... Which means it really did happen and that they now think it was unjustifiable and illegal, contradicting the first two points But hey whatever

Imagine if they mix up the timeline so she's trying to take the puppies from a two-person family that has inexcusably adopted over 100 Dalmatians. Like they can't be looking after them properly. She works for SCPA.
-
If they do anything different in terms of the dalmatians, it would detract from the animated and live action films. From the trailers, I suspect there is going to be a mental illness angle but that's going to be so easy to mess up (see Joker)

I just don't understand why they would do Cruella. The one who wanted to not only kill dogs but puppies for a fur coat. Only reason could be they are banking off of nostalgia for Glenn Close Cruella. If they really want to do villain POV, do Ursula or something.

I guess that's not dissimilar to what they did with Maleficent, where not only does she have a seriously valid reason to hate the royal family, but the stories about her being evil are clearly propaganda. It's just hard to imagine doing that with a rich fashionista.

In the real world, people are villainized through a mix of utter lies, exaggerations, and events taken out of context. But "setting the record straight" on propaganda like that doesn't make a good cinematic twist when all accounts are equally fictional.
-
It would be great if the movie tried to make the case that making a coat out of 100 dogs is equally evil to making it out of 100 mink or chinchilla or w/e, but I'm not holding my breath for that.
