There aren't any. There are some okay-to-good ones but even the best ones have that Season One stink all over it.

One thing working in DS9's favor was that it inherited an entire production crew from TNG at its prime. That show got to hit the ground running.

A notable aspect watching through is just that they really dug in on Kira's character well beyond the usual 'cast of misfits, everybody has their one backstory issue/quirk, we'll get a few episodes on it.' She was at the crux of the overall premise and they went deep early.

So even as many of those were normal, not-too-deep Treky episodes, you still get a ton of character movement right away that you don't really see in other franchise shows.

I'd vote The Neutral Zone as best season 1 TNG. It's no Duet. Duet gives so much depth to Kira and also the people and world around her.

When he breaks down at the end, talking about that useless file clerk screaming and screaming and unable to DO anything about it, and you can see how deep the self-loathing runs. That performance was fantastic.
