What's obnoxious about this is their worldview *defines* who the Cool Kids are, presuppositionally, and then says *by definition* they are the Underdog Nerds no matter what happens

It is blatantly obvious that Scott is more of a Cool Kid than Cade Metz, with incredibly powerful millionaires and billionaires declaring themselves fans of Scott who will rain down hellfire to keep his blog going, with Substack paying him six figures for his brain-droppings

But because Cade Metz works for the NYT, he's "power" and Scott is "speaking truth to power", even though Cade Metz has way less money than Scott, even though his job is way less secure than Scott's, even though he'd have way fewer allies if shit seriously hit the fan than Scott

The whole thing is that Scott's fans engage in blatant, hilarious doublethink about this constantly The NYT is an incredibly powerful legacy institution all of us quake in fear of It's also "the failing New York Times" that "nobody thinks is relevant anymore -- Sad!"

Nerds are extremely sore winners Techbros actively control a rapidly-expanding share of the infrastructure underpinning society with unchecked arbitrary power, and they gloat about it constantly And they can't be the bad guys because 25 years ago someone shoved them in a locker

half the time, nobody shoved them in s locker, they just watched too many 80s movies about high school cliques

Even Scott's tedious autobiography about his terrible lonely childhood doesn't say anyone actively shoved him into anything Maybe they did, but he mostly just complains about people ignoring him, especially pretty girls

He himself back in the original dustup with @chrysopoetics said he finds "social justice" "triggering" because the first experience he had with being widely personally attacked was telling a racist joke in his college paper or something and then trying to explain it wasn't racist
