Right, the indefensible part of the argument isn't arguing whether or not Scott is racist, or whether or not him being racist impacts his ability to provide mental health care It's the part where SCOTT'S PATIENTS CAN'T BE TRUSTED TO MAKE THAT ASSESSMENT THEMSELVES

And, unlike what Scott was doing, that was actually a *secret* secret, not an "open secret" No one in her life knew she was Belle du Jour but her agent and her lawyer, her own family didn't know

I don't think The Secret Barrister's real name is public knowledge. But that's about it.

The Last Psychiatrist was outed, and quit writing around that time for that reason, IIRC He wasn't actually famous enough for people to really care that much but his real name is on the first page of search results for "The Last Psychiatrist"

What's incredible here is that the outing itself isn't seen as the problem, that our society isn't too top-heavy, that the responsibility has to be on the individual to maintain anonymity.

I don't know what the hell that's supposed to mean I like Magnanti and think it's a shame she couldn't live the double life she wanted but it's hard to imagine any society that both makes it possible for her to get rich and famous as an author and impossible for her to be outed

She knew she was going to be outed because someone worked out her identity years before, set a trap for anyone who also found out and warned her the trap went off. He made a blog post about, iirc, BM commenting about a scotch and something unrelated about BDJ.
