Good read "ideas are meaningless in a vacuum that does not include real world material conditions... people pursuing innovation are not the only people who matter"https://twitter.com/espiers/status/1361025075831574529 …

Do you think that's fair? It seems more like a criticism of 'some people who like SSC' rather than SSC itself, which pays assiduous evidence-based attention to real world conditions and isn't primarily about 'pursuing innovation'.

I need to read a lot more SSC to draw a proper verdict. Can only at this stage say it's a fair criticism of *some* kinds of libertarian thought - cannot accuse SSC of it on what I know

I'm not even sure he's a libertarian. SSC's critics, inc. NYT, are using it as a stand-in for 'ideologies/people we don't like' while mischaracterising the actual work. I do understand his infuriation.https://slatestarcodex.com/2017/02/22/repost-the-non-libertarian-faq/#introduction …

Scott likes to just use the word "liberal" for himself, which is fair enough since it provides a reason for people like me to distance ourselves from that label But it's really what was called the "Californian Ideology"https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Californian_Ideology …
