Later on in Rami's thread, they talk about conveying the experience of the soldiers being there because of politics. So if they're trying to do that while also not talking about those politics, they're either lying to us or themselves.

For real. If you even think about it for a second and consider the Iraqi ‘insurgents’ (who are, to be clear, freedom fighters defending their home from an occupying army they didn’t invite) as humans, and the civilians as more than window dressing, it becomes a blatant falsity.
