The movie has almost certainly gotten a bump it doesn't really deserve because of Disney+ advertising it every time you run out of new WandaVision episodes to watchhttps://twitter.com/JennyENicholson/status/1360785954508705795 …

It's my least favorite marvel movie to be sure, and that includes Thor 2

I watched it again recently and it's better than I remembered, but still a lower tier Marvel movie. James Spader absolutely killed it though.

i have a take that has ruined age of ultron for literally everyone to whom i have said it and am absolutely delighted for this second chance at it
-
(age of ultron is fundamentally a movie about family planning and joss whedon's obsession with conventional heterosexual marriage and childbirth. once you realize that even ultron and vision themselves are about this you start staring into a yawning abyss)

There are some great scenes. I love Vision and Ultron's last scene together. I like all of Spader's performance. It may not be as tight as Winter Soldier or as serious as Civil War I suppose. It's pretty clunky, but that's kind of true of all the MCU tbh.

That movie is a trip. A few genuinely inspired moments, but it has zero sense of narrative focus. Ultron is consistently played as a joke, too many mandated MCU tie-ins, and a generally sense of prickly unease as Whedon was going through a 100% his-fault divorce.
-
(it’s also a movie that was hastily rewritten to accommodate Johansson’s pregnancy, which I’m sure give recent revelations Whedon was thrilled about)

It's more the long weekend of Ultron.

I rewatched it... not as bad as I remember initially reacting to it, but definitely feels like the most flawed of the Avengers films. Lots of rushed pacing.

The movie's a patchwork hack job, the suits lost faith in Whedon partway through and tried to save the movie against his will
