"I said something to the effect of: “yeah, I know–that’s what you just told me, isn’t it? So that’s why I just left you a tip!” Sheesh." very "erratic, threatening, and aggressive". yes. that cashier's life was at risk!

I guess the next time I'm working in a retail job and someone snatches all my money from the tip jar and says something that makes no sense in an angry tone of voice when I object, I'll keep in mind that I'm the one oppressing the autistic community by not letting him do it

Christ this is the epitome of bad-faith invoking neurodivergence to excuse bad behavior that sets everyone else back Why so blithe in your assumption that this judgmental normie cashier was one of those evil NTs and not also ND themselves

I guess she must've been, right If they were really neurodivergent they'd have a well paid Silicon Valley job and not be working retail in the first place

The essence of these bad faith invocations of disability is they don't acknowledge that by disclaiming any responsibility for performing emotional and mental labor they MOVE that responsibility elsewhere

You fucked up at theory of mind, you offended a bunch of people and now you've made a mess you didn't mean to make and that sucks Really, it does, and society should have more mechanisms to fix that

But by saying you bear no responsibility here you're saying the cashier should be a goddamn WIZARD of theory of mind That some retail worker should be trained to instantly analyze your actions, develop an empathetic picture of your POV, and come to an accurate threat assessment

That's hard work It's hard work for NT and ND people alike I'd venture that it's usually HARDER work for ND people working in the service sector It is absurdly entitled to go around saying "because everyone around me isn't doing this work for me all the time, I'm oppressed"

And yeah, this isn't just about this absurd stupid situation with the tip jar This is exactly how Scott A and his friends see "nerdy men" (whom they equate with neurodivergence) relating to women (whom they equate with oppressive neurotypical society)

"They shouldn't be scared of me, they should know how hard it is for me not to 'act weird' around sexually desirable women, they should make room for my behavior and not automatically treat me as a threat" Sounds like you expect them to do a lot of work while you do none

There are a ton of threads on here from ND women about how much harm they've opened themselves up to because the burden of making nuanced, accurate and empathetic threat assessments that make room for divergent behavior falls on them
