And then, in the 80s, we...can kinda do without one. I mean, Three's company had one, but I feel they were sorta on their way out and not taken as seriously anymore.

At some point, it might be next episode, we're appearing to transition into superhero dramedy, like 'The Flash' in the 90s...or maybe more CWy, like Buffy. And I think Agnes is firmly positioning herself as Secret Keeper.

I don’t get that impression, but I don’t know what’s going to happen when they run out of decades to mimic sitcoms from. The 90s had a few sitcoms that mimicked the Bewitched model of keeping powers secret but the only one I can recall taking off is Sabrina the teenage witch

It seems like it would work with the show’s premise really well but simultaneously clash with its themes too much to be workable, Wanda is always the star of these shows so suddenly making her and Agnes into Hilda and Zelda respectively (with Vision as Salem?) to her sons is off

I think you're translating the sitcom homages a bit too literally? While there were half a dozen teen fantasy sitcoms (You forgot You Wish, Teen Angel, and Aliens in the Family, and those were all just on TGIF. ;), there were adult ones too.

I didn’t actually forget them, I cut them to meet 280 characters. You Wish, Teen Angel, and The Charmings were all from that era, and I think Teen Angel might have gotten two seasons and the rest only one, so it’s not the sitcom trend I would choose to mimic the 90s zeitgeist

The 90s seem to be particularly youth focused as far as sitcoms go. The family sitcoms ended up centering around younger characters (Urkel, Cody) and the others tended to be immature young adults (Friends, Seinfeld, etc) or cynical jerks (Married With Children)

Interesting where I was right and where I was wrong here. We did get a transition to a more youth-focused show with Malcolm in the Middle being the clear primary influence. Except MiM was a 2000s era show so maybe the strict set up of one decade per episode was an illusion?

I don't think they're going strictly by "decades" (which are kind of an arbitrary time marker) The first episode was "50s" and did draw on 50s sitcoms like I Love Lucy but the primary influence The Dick Van Dyke show, which was 1961-66

Likewise in the most recent episode they referenced Family Ties (1982-89), Growing Pains (1985-92) and Full House (1987-95)

Most recent before this one, I mean This one was almost 100% Malcolm in the Middle (2000-06) But I dunno, there's some Freaks and Geeks vibes there (1999-2000)

The sudden shift to Billy as main character in the sitcom is interesting. I don’t know if I should take it as anything more than a sitcom update but it could be more?
