MMA fighters just generally aren't good actors I see no reason to have ever thought they would behttps://twitter.com/rebeccawatson/status/1359887533455204354 …

now that gina carrano has been fired for being a bigot is it cool to say she’s a terrible actor with all the emotion of a wetsuit full of pudding or nah

MMA is real, practical, no-frills fighting to win with all the showy performative stuff from traditional martial arts stripped away right So by definition what they do is totally unlike acting

It's like being surprised a plumber is bad at acting in a movie playing a character who also has a job as a plumber Unless the onscreen action consists of nothing but realistic plumbing scenes I don't know why this would be a surprise

The most bizarre thing about this was stuff like hiring Rousey for Mortal Kombat *purely as a voice actor* Not posing with her muscles, not doing mo-cap of actual fighting Just her voice reading lines, even though she didn't win any championships for talking

I dunno It's like when they hired Katy Perry to play Smurfette even though the movie wasn't a musical and she didn't do any singing Like they just watched her interviews and thought she sounded like the character I mean... Sure I guess

I'm reading a listicle of "MMA fighters turned actors" right now and am once more overwhelmed by the sheer number of movies I have never heard of and have no intention of ever seeing on this list

I somehow completely missed that there was a Tekken movie that came out in 2009

In general if your job involves a lot of head injuries you're probably not gonna be the best actor.

The Rock is a serviceable actor, though he's probably the exception that proves the rule, and he had lots of practice since wrestling is fake

they may not be good actors™ but they absolutely have a physical credibility that's undeniable. that's basically the whole thing with 'haywire'

i mean you watch her fight scene with ewan mcgregor and it's clear what's happening. one is a fighter and one is an actor and it's more satisfying for it her views are wack but it does nobody any good to pretend that the limit of acting is repeating dialog convincingly
