Can't wait for someone to start a whole thing about "dropping the mic" Like how mics are expensive equipment that cost a lot to replace and a lot of people would love to own a high-quality performance mic and only someone born into privilege could possibly

Recording engineer here. We really do hate to see people drop mics. Because people don’t bring their own mics. And their fragile. And prone to feedback. Ms Bridgers wants to smash some ugly mass produced guitar, I don’t care, though I was disappointed it didn’t actually break.

I’m saying it’s different for mics. I don’t think most non-engineers really care about them or the poor FOH engineers. Whereas I think David Crosby is the only actual professional guitarist I’ve seen get his nose out of joint over this. So to speak.

But I may be missing which direction your sarcasm is directed.

I'm saying the whole reason "drop the mic" is a thing is that it's a sign of intentional arrogance and disrespect, it's telling everyone you're so important/famous/wealthy/etc that you don't care about the cost of any equipment you damage

It's like finishing your drink and breaking your glass on the floor, the whole point is it's a flex to show you're an asshole Like, maybe that point has been lost by endless memetic repetition, but I thought it was always obvious that was why people do it

I may have come into the whole phenomenon late, but I didn't get that impression. "Mic drop" to me means "case closed, no rebuttal will be heard." It is an arrogant move but not necessarily an asshole move.

It's multiple different things at once but literally dropping the mic onto the ground always obviously has been a dick move

Replying to @arthur_affect @daviddlevine and
It's ALSO a dick move because you're dropping the mic onto the ground because now that you're done, the show is over and there's no need to pass it to anyone else - you've given the definitive performance/argument that ends the event

And anyone who wants to follow your act will have to humiliatingly kneel down and pick it up and possibly use a mic that's damaged It's the same arrogance as breaking your glass - "I don't care about whoever comes after me because no one should be coming after me"
