If you read Anti-Semite and Jew by Sartre he goes in hard on how the antisemite - and by extension the fascist in general - is someone who's given up on finding something positive to be for and instead is defined entirely by having something to be againsthttps://twitter.com/catvalente/status/1359145731953725442 …

There’s a whole swath of evil that is just the apotheosis of laziness, and Trump found the lode for the GOP, taught them to mine it, and showed them how to get the most energy out for the least energy in. Have you met people? They are never gonna give that up. Or let it down.

And even though Anti-Semite and Jew was written by a Jewish man who survived Nazism he makes it clear in the book antisemitism has little to do with Judaism From a Jew's POV it's shocking how little an antisemite even knows about what being "Jewish" means

If Jews didn't exist it could be something else (in places where there isn't much of a Jewish population it often is something else) It often starts as something else before the well-worn grooves in the pavement of Western civilization channel it into antisemitism

It really is at heart what we call "owning the libs" People who think they're better than you, people putting on airs of being special when you're ordinary, people who aren't *normal* and *authentic* and *decent* like you and your friends, people who are *fake*

It's a petty childish stupid reason for hate that touches all of us through our lifetime It seems mild enough in and of itself When it takes over someone's life though it reliably turns them into a shit And specifically into an antisemite

It's other things too sometimes, but these things all flow into each other The Nazis were extremely queerphobic too but to them it was all one thing (Jewish elites spreading perversion to destroy the family and the nation)

You could rewrite Anti-Semite and Jew as "TERF and Trans Woman" and get a shockingly accurate description of the UK right now
