It'd be interesting for a show like that to start with 9/11 happening in the first episode. The whole world changes right at the beginning. I don't remember how The Wonder Years started.

I mean... even at the time, the title was partly to mostly ironic? Most of the episodes are sad or melancholy, the persistent recurring theme is Kevin experiencing some significant loss (either literal or "of innocence") or realizing he's doing something for the last time...
