I meant less "one of the 2 dozen superheroes would have stopped 9/11" and more that the MCU's political climate and the specific players involved were completely different in 2001 since they're pretty scrupulous to just have a generic "mr president" type there all the time

The connection between Netflix Marvel and the MCU proper is a big mess but if you accept that Luke Cage is MCU canon then Obama was elected in 2008 in their world

Replying to @arthur_affect @Lochlan_S and
The fact that the President in Iron Man 3 is the fictional Matthew Ellis led fans to conclude that in this universe Obama was a one-termed, who lost reelection in 2012 against a "national security" Republican because of the debacle with the Chitauri invasion

Those things are certainly true. I don't recall anyone discussing presidents or goings on in the 2000-04 term because no one goes to escapist films to hear about 9/11, so I'm not 100% sure they have a 9/11. Maybe their wtc just looks different or was built elsewhere

I tend to go with the assumption that their history matches our history, however unlikely that may seem, unless and until we're specifically told otherwise This matches the ethos of Marvel Comics since its founding, with Stan Lee calling it "the world outside your front door!"

In a general sense, I agree with you, but I don't think bucky did 9/11, since it would put a damper on people writing fanfic shipping him with steve or falcon or whoever since it's more grounded and not fun or glamorous like him murdering tony's parents, which didn't happen irl.

Nah 9/11 was clearly masterminded by the true Mandarin, using Osama bin Laden as a puppet figurehead

That's perfectly plausible in the mcu.

I mean I'm serious, when they introduce the Ten Rings the point is they're the "ultimate terrorists" who sponsor violent insurrectionists of various ideologies just to create chaos And then after the reveal it's actually Aim, there's a DVD extra showing they're real after all

I know. I've seen it.

It's all good, man. Just, like mentioned upthread, I don't love attributing all world events to the same 2 dozen characters. It makes the setting feel smaller, like learning all star wars characters are members of the same family

This is why I was iffy on the Ten Rings actually existing initially but now I'm fine with it just as a way to make everything messier and more complicated
