The Christians had constant huge big fights over this that weren't officially settled until the Canon of Trent in 1546 and even then wasn't *actually* settled (the Catholic and Protestant Bibles are different because of the "Apocrypha")

Evangelicals don't know the history of how the book got into their hands, and that allows them to view it as a divine gestalt descending from on high.

This one time in Sunday School the teacher said, Why do you think there was a gap in time between the Old and New Testaments? And I said, Because Martin Luther cut the books that were written in that time period when he translated it into the vernacular. It was awkward.
