He was very big on proactive rat control, you get a terrier bred to root out rat nests and you go in hard and take them all out That's what terriers are for and that's why they act the way they do

Terriers, unlike natural predators that humans have not fucked with, do not hunt because they are hungry Their instincts have been warped into a genocidal urge to find any small burrowing thing in the vicinity and rip and tear and rip and tear until nothing moves anymore

Now that we've mostly moved on to higher-tech, less bloody means of large-scale pest control, terriers are obsolete for their original function, and their more-domesticated descendants get these feelings out by just being very annoying

It's just funny how heavily we've fucked with dogs, especially compared to cats Terriers are a Bio-Organic Weapon They literally have Dalek minds, "EX-TERM-IN-ATE, EX-TERM-IN-ATE"

i feel like humans never quite forgot that they domesticated dogs for practical reasons, while cats just domesticated themselves and we let them for the aesthetic :p

My favorite thing is how retrievers are the most "exactly what it says on the tin" animal we have We designed a whole-ass animal just to retrieve shit for us

A golden retriever's whole damn life revolves around a human indicating they want something retrieved and then running off posthaste to carefully retrieve it And they're deeply emotionally invested in doing it too

The Rick and Morty jokes about creating a sentient being with feelings and emotions just to pass you the butter is kind of redundant We already did that, to creatures of flesh and blood, centuries ago

What are Malamute’s. I have a “rescue” one, and I still can’t work it out ... apart from the obvious wilfulness. “Mal-a-Mutt”. ?

They're named after the Inuit tribe that bred them, and while they're a bit of an "all-purpose" breed their primary purpose was as sled dogs

My understanding is they're not built for speed and aggression like dedicated hunting dogs, and as dogs bred for cold Alaska winters they tend to conserve energy and are more chill than other breeds But they are big strong athletes who need exercise to be happy

I had one growing up. They're strong, stubborn, and patient. GREAT family dogs *IF you can be more willful than they are to get them trained! The moots are the long-haulers, they just keep going and going (but they do enjoy the naps when they can get one!).
