Every single cat rescue person I know is a "cat antinatalist", they're against the creation of more kittens because cats are wildly overpopulated and this is horrible both for the environment and the welfare of the average cat The general opinion is cat breeders are bad

I don’t think it’s that perverse, even if it’s a bit atavistic for modern society. For early agricultural societies, the arrival of these furry little murder machines probably felt like a literal godsend. Hence the out and out worship in some cases.

Yeah the Chinese word for "cat", "mao", while it may be related to the noise they make, also seems to be related to the word "miao", for grain The character for "cat" contains the character for "grain" and this may be meaningful

Didn’t cats also play a role in the development of agriculture? I’d be surprised if our reliance on them wasn’t deeply ingrained. (badum tish)

they happened to be the natural rodent predator in the areas where the earliest agriculture was happening, AND they required no effort on anyone's part. the fact that we invented terriers anyway tells you a lot about how cats basically tricked us XD

If there had been more cats in the beginning of the 1300s, we wouldn’t have had the Black Plague, so maybe we have good reason to love them

When you put it that way, it makes perfect sense, actually.
