Like sure you can say "Satire!" and "Kayfabe!" and "Roleplaying!" all you want but when it gets past a certain point where you know a huge percentage of your audience is perceiving the "persona" as "ambiguously" nonfiction you're already doing something shitty

And yeah people have the right to speak up and say that this is a tactic used to cover up actual factual abuse, because it is It's not like playing a rapist in a movie, going around in real life "joking" about how many unconscious groupies you've raped is predatory behavior

Could it be that people who are capable of very good things (ie his work to de-stigmatise teen mental illness and expression post Columbine) are also capable of horrifically evil things (ie. literally torturing underage women)?

TBC, I'm not invested in Manson one way or another - I mentioned the only bit of his art that's really tainted for me is the integration into the original Matrix BDSM club scene, which still makes sense in universe without being an endorsement. I just don't like '90s moral panics

Like, as folks have pointed out, in addition to "video games are too violent," we've had "Harry Potter is evil" both become mainstream viewpoints for people our age and younger, when we grew up hearing those things from religious conservatives.
