This is why I hated a lot of the arguments against defining "planet" back when they downgraded Pluto - it had already been redefined multiple times for similar reasons. None of the astronomers arguing against it would have accepted going back to saying the Sun is a planet.

TBF some arguing against it favored different definitions, but those would have led to a significant number of reclassifications as well. It's the "keep it the way it is" argument that always failed to engage with "the way it is" was a pretty new innovation itself.
