Actively preferring bullshit to an honest "I don't know" is way too common in the business world It's like when bosses say "Don't bring me problems unless you're also bringing a solution", which is an obvious recipe for disasterhttps://twitter.com/AlexandraErin/status/1356343816471638016?s=19 …

and in fact isn't it your boss's job to find the right person to address the problem

I forget who, but there was a comedian who said something like "I don't know how to fly a helicopter, but if I see a helicopter stuck in a tree, I know someone somewhere fucked up"

I've had bosses who were *terrified* of acknowledging problems because it meant that their bosses would have to be told, so if I brought up a problem (like, say, the thing that turns security tags off just flat not working), I'd just get "it was tested a month ago, it was fine."
-
They'd rather have the problem be an escalating issue over time that would inevitably be obvious to the higher-ups (like, say, why the store is apparently losing hundreds of thousands of pieces of merchandise to theft with normal sales numbers) (con't)

Sometimes people outside of the expertise can identify problems better than those within. That doesn't always (or even often) make them the right people to solve the problem but it's also not their job to do so. Identifying there *is a problem* is half the battle tbh.
