The old school shows that the 50s and 60s episodes were based on (primarily The Dick Van Dyke Show and Bewitched) both took place in Connecticut, so the husband could have a prestigious NYC job he commuted to

Living in a quiet bedroom community near but not in the biggest city in the country used to be the American Dream

God, it's just, having done that IRL, WHY but I mean, I guess that's also the show's point

That's the biggest mystery of the show as far as I'm concerned. Why does Wanda - a millennial raised in a war-torn Eastern European (possibly Soviet bloc) country - fantasize about living in a mid-century American sitcom?

Reruns of old American sitcoms as escapist fantasy is bigger than our boarders. They were VERY effective propaganda

Paul Bettany said that the syndicated daytime reruns he watched in England as a kid were one giant, confusing, muddled advertisement for life in the US "And now I live here so I guess it worked"

I wont say it out loud yet, but if you go by the "everything named/acknowledged has a purpose" school of staying ahead of a mystery Ep4 lays A LOT of foundation for "She didn't choose NJ and is not as in charge as she thinks"...

I did catch the ad for "Hydra Soak" which made me think that there might be a tie to the Hydra base in New Jersey

A lot of people believe that the ad's are referring to events in Wanda's life, such as the Stark Toaster being the Stark weapons that destroyed her home town, the Strukker Watch refering to her detainment by HYDRA, and the HYDRA Soak ad being her current predicament.

We won't know for certain until future episodes, but Ep. 4 implies that the ads are also being broadcast and are not for purely our enjoyment, possibly as a reflection of Wanda's numerous trauma's.

Yeah I'm all-in on the fan theory that the recurring married couple we see in the commercials is Wanda's memory of her parents

Oooooh, haven't see that theory yet. And considering the way the man and woman interact with each other, kinda dark.
