Ayn Rand herself, of course, had an overpowering crush on a guy who murdered a kidhttps://twitter.com/ChristieSmythe/status/1352779265721380864 …

It's a perspective. I don't know if it's crazy. Maybe. Writers can get pretty fascinated by their subjects for all sorts of reasons. (Lol, trust me.) It's not unusual to relate to them or sympathize with them. Why is Rand so evil for doing this when it happens a lot.
-
The degree to which it's unusual is not the point, the point is it's an opinion that is incorrect and fucked up If a writer finds themselves "fascinated" to this degree by a total piece of shit then maybe that writer needs to log off and go outside

Like, specifically because he's "intelligent" and "exceptional", this means it can't possibly be his own moral failing that he kidnapped and murdered a girl It's society's fault for not giving him sufficient scope to express his genius and keep him from getting bored
-
This is a diseased point of view, especially because the definition of "intelligent" and "exceptional" is so nebulous -- it's something people just decide to label someone as because they like the guy But of course, you probably know that, or will soon
