Nobody ever forgets their origin, Arthur. That's pretty explicit! (Hell, they're arguably led by *demons* in both cases, in fact!) But they're also still driven by this *elemental*, supernatural hostility to the natural world itself.

I'd say *dominion*, but sure. I just don't know if I'd call Tolkien anti-production, or for that matter anti-prosperity or science. I really hate the common nerd take of Sauron as Champion of Industry, Science, and the Little Guy, it shows a profound ignorance of the work.

(ESPECIALLY ironic given that not only does Sauron have none of a scientist's reverence or love of the natural world, he is the *literal inventor of overt religious sacrifice*)
