The person in the thread doesn’t do this but it annoys me when game developers see this as a problem in player behavior rather than a problem in their design

Mark Rosewater gives the example of designing cards in one of the joke mtg set that punish your opponent when they say certain words and how that wound up being a terrible idea because it encourages players to be stony silent in what are supposed to be jokey friendly games

I get why players do this even when it isn't very rewarding. Personally I always rage quit when I try to create a build in a rpg and the game just doesn't help me. It's like trying the other geometric holes just to find out that only two of them work, it's just frustrating.
