Although you are still supposed to be extremely polite, "Good afternoon, sir/ma'am", etc. But that's not that different from running into a normal boss at the supermarket

right, right Yeah it's not especially common when you're in uniform and the CO isn't (generally it means they stopped back at work to grab something or do something pretty informal) but I certainly was never admonished for it

Oh sorry yeah if you're on duty and they're just coming by the base in street clothes I think it's different than if you're both off duty and going to the store or whatever
