Former foster mom: It has to be something physical for removal, almost always. Neglect, lack of medical care, physical/sexual abuse. Especially as a white family. Every foster parent I have known believes CPS/DCS is more about the parents than the kids.

Also, during COVID, things have gotten bad enough that you need a stronger than normal reason for removal.

This is a real thing. My therapist in high school told me I just needed to hang on until college, because it was going to give me a better escape than foster care. As an adult I've questioned her ethics, but also appreciate that she was honest with me about it.
