I know this is only going to bother me but the Second Lady is called the Second Lady because there’s a First Lady (the wife of the president.) if there’s no First Gentleman it shouldn’t need to be a Second Gentleman.

Have you ever heard a male president called that?

If the First Lady held an elected or appointed office in her own right you would call her that instead (Senator, Congressman, Director, etc) The "First Lady" thing is a placeholder title, the indication she holds the social rank without a corresponding office
-
Yes but as the president HAS an office, he doesn’t get the placeholder title, therefore there is still no first gentleman

So, like Air Force One, she's Lady One?
-
No, she's only called that when POTUS is on board

That's how I think of it.

Ok, so when we get a female President, would her wife be the Second Lady? The VP would be the Third Lady and the Vice President’s husband be the First Gentleman?

I like the thought that a male president is the first gentleman. So when we have a female president she would be the first lady as well, interesting.
