Yeah I love how hard they commit to the premise that these are just the rules of this universe It's an otherwise realistic setting except for how a children's karate tournament is Serious Business

Yeah the show knows why this is all funny but the characters don’t, that’s their world.

Danny's wife, like his mom before her, knows that this is all kind of weird and not okay but can't really say anything to stop it

Yeah. I remember being a kid and liking KK 2 more because the score and the fact that Dan actually is the good guy/heroic in some way.

I think Creed kind of does something similar, in that it’s a deconstruction/reframing of the Rocky movies when it comes to race, while also not being a parody, and clearly lovingly made.

Cause the rules of Rocky are that he becomes the most famous champion of all time and the movie takes that at face value.

Obviously not 1:1 what you’re saying, and I guess, as Bob pointed out, they are trying it with Mighty Ducks? Which, I think they’d have to force an interesting take on, I can’t fathom a read of the OG that has anything to say about that text.

Yeah I mean it literally is just repeating the plot of The Mighty Ducks 1 Completely - the plot of that movie was already him realizing that his old hockey team, the Hawks, were shitty bullies and starting a new team to oppose them
