i support prisoners getting food that complies with their ethical (including religious) beliefs, and being broad there is better than being narrow, but tbh the fake shaman guy demanding organic shit annoys me greatly

like, 1. veganism &c. is a ethical belief about our basic relationship to other living things; "organic" in the general sense is mostly counterfactual woo-woo about chemicals 2. his shaman shtick is fundamentally bullshit; he's a q guy, all of his beliefs are inchoate bullshit

i think splitting hairs about "legitimacy" here would harm more people than it helps, so let's not do that on a policy level but if some mass shooter was like "i subsist entirely on ben shapiro brain pills" i think it'd be ok to get really pissed off at him on a personal level

It's such transparent gaming the system, it's not that "organic" food is generally really that much better than "non-organic" food out in the real world, it's that this way he's forcing them to buy food from a regular store and not through the shitty prison supply system

Everyone knows this -- you get better food, as in real, fresh food, if you find a way to make them comply with a restriction that the Federal Institutional Meal Schedule does not contain an option for, so they have to go shopping for it from a real-people venue
