I honestly don't know how people find that comforting. Every bad thing that happens to someone is for a reason? What, the power that decided that couldn't have picked someone else?

The only thing I've seen that's worse is "God is testing me" when a parent loses a child. Not only is that incredibly self-centered, seeing the child as no more than an object orbiting the parent, but it speaks so poorly of their god.
