I've talked about this before, but I was in my high school's production of THE MIRACLE WORKER when I was a sophomore and in hindsight I looked up the character I played (James Keller) and was absolutely astonished by how literally everything about him was fabricatedhttps://twitter.com/bellethetired/status/1348110564879339520 …

Like James Keller, as he is in that book/play/whatever, just fundamentally did not exist. He was certainly not some fucking smartass young man who got into arguments with his father at the dinner table about the Battle of Vicksburg. There just wasn't a James Keller.

Like in point of fact there was a guy by that name but literally everything else about him is Hollywood.

This almost always happens with "based on a true story" stuff They may try for accuracy with the "important" central characters but for the side characters they just make up the character they want from a writing POV and then put a real person's name on them

I mean you might as well Most real people who aren't "important" didn't leave that much of a paper trail so trying to figure out what they were "really like" in hindsight is almost impossible anyway

Man imagine if they made a biopic about some of the clowns in my life

Imagine if they wrote a play about your childhood with only the broad biographical details intact but just put in a generic "big brother" and "little sister" stereotype for your siblings

He was your idol whom you admired and emulated in all things until he was tragically taken too soon in a horrible anime viewing accident

You know they would do the cliché from Sense8 where your mom maliciously misgenders you and your sister tries to stick up for you but is too much of a peacemaker to risk getting disowned

The writers doing me dirty by framing me as THE inexplicable asshole, who hates her normcore CW-looking middle-class suburban family for no clearly articulated reason and also my wise grandfather who I don't appreciate until the end of the movie is just Chuck Norris

Isn’t this the plot of one of the expendables movies
