So a thing that is genuinely bugging me about Hades is the decision to refer to Hades as hell in places.

Portions of the New Testament that refer to Hell are just translating "Hades" though (The other references are referring to "the trash" essentially. Extremely misleading millenia long translation. Like Jesus is going to "toss sinners in the fire" bc *they burned trash*)

I wouldn't go so far as to say the mythic Gehenna being an actual supernatural place is "mistranslation" Jesus actually does describe it in detail in multiple places, including very vividly discussing the nature of the afterlife in the parable of Lazarus and the Rich Man

He names the Bad Place after the garbage dump outside Jerusalem because he's a generally very down to earth, folksy public speaker with a dark sense of humor, but I don't think that's the same as saying he was only speaking metaphorically

I mean with religion everything's kind of a metaphor but also not amirite (Trying to sum up 2000 years of theology in one sentence)
