I genuinely think it’s a gendered pattern in my family, because my Dad has the accent and my Mom doesn’t. My brother’s always had it more strongly than me. None of this excuses me suddenly sounding like a cowboy in my late 30s. I apologize.

I read a thing once with people arguing over whether "men have stronger regional accents than women" is a real thing or it's just a result of most linguists studying this phenomenon historically being men and female subjects being less comfortable with them

I do think it's obvious that in fiction having a more "proper" or "educated" accent is *coded* feminine and that affects how some people talk
